Primary Activity: Scavenging (+1)

Difficulty: Easy.

Dusted with snow year round, the only plant life to be found are strange bushes persistently in bloom with reddened leaves and flowers. Undeterred by the temperatures or the weather, these plants can be found at any time of the year. Otherwise, there isn't much to the tundra - snow and ice and slight hills, with nervous creatures hiding among the brush. Frigid and frequently attacked by snow storms, the tundra is unforgiving and strange and best avoided if one is not prepared to sleep against an ice patch.

The inhabitants of the Vermilion Tundra likely chose the landscape for its hidden treasures, but there are some packs scattered around that picked the snowy plains as a place to raise a family. Vespers and other creatures usually get along well, helping each other out in times of need and scarcity, but rarely choose to interact with others outside their social units. The natives are both distant and tight-knit—a delicate and complicated relationship for those living in the snow.

The Vermilion Tundra, along with its bright red bushes, is most well-known for the ruins buried in the snow. These ancient structures, abandoned long ago by those who used to inhabit them, now serve as temporary shelters, targets for treasure hunting, and even the settings for campfire stories of spirits lost in the blanket of white.

LANDMARKS

Torana Ruins: Perhaps the most infamous of the Vermilion Tundra’s ruins, the Torana Ruins are not for the faint-hearted. Located near the eastern side of the region, the ruins take incredible effort to reach, and those who manage to find them are often greeted with an uncomfortable feeling. Passerby say the eerie silence is enough to scare even the toughest of Vespers straight out of their skin, but that doesn't stop packs of cocky adolescents from paying a visit. Although the Torana Ruins initially appear as gray rocks protruding from the snow, a closer look reveals a large temple that would even give Somnis a run for their money. The ruins often suffer from snowstorms, however, and during this time it's rumored that the spirit of a Vesper emerges from the depths of the temple. The ruins are named after her, as she has been there as long as Vespers can remember.

Masenji Ruins: Sitting at the northern end of the region, near the base of the Whiteout Mountains, the Masenji Ruins are more welcoming than the Torana Ruins to the east, most likely because more is known about them. Words inscribed in the walls reveal that an advanced tribe of Dourin lived here, and it's presumed the location was abandoned when the habitat became unsuitable for the thin-skinned race to live. Now the ruins serve as a popular scavenging location, occasionally turning up treasure but usually turning up junk.

Red Smear Hill: Surrounded by crimson-colored bushes, Red Smear Hill serves as the perfect vantage point for viewing the Vermilion Tundra. Besides the low-lying shrubs that circle the hill, this area overlooks a vast expanse of white—perfect for Vespers to scan the environment, whether it’s for distant ruins, prey, or the shine of lost treasure. Those with sharp eyesight can see for miles on a clear day, and sometimes the Torana Ruins can be seen off to the east.

Eminon's Circle: In the center of the region there’s a large ring of stones nicknamed “The Ring of Despair.” No one knows who the ring was named after or what it was built for, but it's speculated that this geometric arrangement of rocks symbolizes a place of worship or even a burial ground. Nevertheless, it's a great place to find useless junk if one so desires. Some Vespers choose to take a stone home with them as a keepsake, but any stone removed from the site is quickly returned due to the bad luck and nightmares that often plague the thief.

You've heard the rumors but have never bothered to investigate until now. The vast expanse of the red-dotted Vermilion Tundra lies before you, seemingly an unassuming part of Attica. There have been whispers, though—whispers of lost treasures and temples hidden deep in the Torana Ruins. On top of all this, you've heard that—if you travel deep enough—you'll encounter a trapped soul, one that the ruins are named after. As you head into the tundra, thoughts swirl around your mind. What could be there? Is there even anything at all? Or do those rumors have some truth to them?

Depict your Vesper exploring the Torana Ruins and encountering the spirit of Torana herself. Submission must meet our Submission Guidelines.
