Barring

Replicates the markings of some birds, particularly owls and hawks.

Guidelines

  • Must be visible on at least 10% of a Vesper's body

  • Must be a darker or lighter hue of the base coat.

  • Must be chunky, feather-like bars, or clusters of fur-like markings in barring patterning.

  • Never should replicate stripes

  • May be black or white.

  • May fade out or create a gradient.

Edges Allowed

Range

Barring can show anywhere on the Vesper, but it's most common around the neck, tail, and legs.

Examples

Note the triangles used in repeating patterns to create the 'barred owl' look. Textured triangles and rectangles are one of the easiest ways to make barring look natural.

This example of barring uses repeating lines. Note that the example is not long stripes, but rather short broken up areas of lines. If these lines were too long, they would be rejected for mimicking stripes. Be careful!

In the above examples of real birds you can see the variation allowed in Barring. Notice that while it is very organic and natural, it also has a very static way of being placed down. In the first example the near-geometric pattern is fairly obvious!

User Examples

Here are examples of player owned Vespers who have the gene Barring!

These designs have other genes as well.
